Could you tell us a little about yourself?
I am 23 years old and live in NH, USA. I moved here 6 months ago to get married. Prior to that I spent three years studying drums at the acclaimed Brighton Institute of Modern Music on the south coast of England. I am British, and have one brother and two sisters.
Which church do you attend? And in what area are you serving, if any?
I attend Harbor Christian Church – harborchristian.com. My wife and myself lead a small group that meets during the week, and I head up the worship team as well as playing most Sunday meetings.
How did you find out about Drummerforchrist.com?
My friend Matthew Ian Hains told me about it.
How long have you been playing drums?
Just over eight years.
What do you practice in drums?
Everything I can. I practice different genres, (Rock, Funk, Jazz, Latin etc), rudiments and rudimental application, moving rhythms through permutations, displacing rhythms, subdividing rhythms, moving rhythms through different note values and different sticking patterns. At the moment I am working my way through Gary Chaffees excellent book ‘Sticking Patterns’
How do you improve yourself besides practicing?
By being committed to the process of sanctification. Meeting with other Christian friends, serving at church, befriending newcomers, finding new ways to love my wife and, most importantly, being open to the prompting of the Holy Spirit as He highlights things in my life that he will empower me to change.
How do you keep yourself spiritually fit?
As above. Through friendship with others. Through relationship with God.
Is there any particular drum and cymbal brand you play with?
I play Premier drums and mostly Sabian cymbals.
Please explain a little about your drum kit and cymbals (if any)
I play a Premier Artist Maple drum set, and switch between a N&C and Black Panther snare drum. Most of my cymbals are Sabian AAX, but I have K Dark hats and a couple of other K/Oriental/A Custom effects cymbals.
What advice would you give to young drummers who is serving or intended to serve in the worship department?
Look for opportunities. Be humble. If you are faithful with little God will bless you with more. Find role models, spend time with them. Cultivate a close relationship with God – character is just as important as gifting.
What do you like to do besides drums?
Bass guitar and Electic guitar. Reading. Playing Poker with friends. Having the occasional cigar. Socializing and sleeping.
How do you see yourself in your drumming in 10 years? What do you hope to achieve? What is your goal?
I hope to forge a successful career in drumming, supporting a family through the money I am making. To be playing and have played in successful bands and to have a large number of students.
Lastly, in your own words, how would you encourage more drummers to this website?I would tell them what the address is and say that they might like to check it out.
