Could you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m Kenny Chong, from Ipoh but currently staying and working in Penang. Accepted the Lord in the year of 1999 and have been serving the Lord since the year of 2002. I’m worshipping and serving at Excel Point Community Church, Penang. I’m one of the youth leaders; I’m a cell group leader and also the section leader for drums and percussions in the worship team. I’m also playing for a band called Crossworks. And one last thing about me – I’m getting married real soon!!! October 2007 – getting married to a beautiful lady that God has brought into my life. Her name is Su Mei, who’s also the church’s administrator; no joke!!! :)

How long have you been playing drums?
I’ve been playing drums for almost 12 years now.
  
What do you practice in drums?
Hmm… I always look into areas like paradiddles (hands and foot combination), practice different kind of style (but I’m more into rock), groove etc.
  
How do you improve yourself besides practicing?
I always like to listen to songs, try to catch something new and interesting. Listen and watch drums solos by professional drummers.
 
How do you keep yourself spiritually fit?
Pray and always believe in God :).  
  
Is there any particular drum and cymbal brand you play with?
Currently I’m playing a Yamaha Stage Custom set in church with Paiste cymbals. Myself, I owned a Mapex set also with Paiste cymbals; Remo heads.
  
Please explain a little about your drum kit and cymbals (if any)
  
What advice would you give to young drummers who is serving or intended to serve in the worship department?
I think the most important think is he/she has to know very clearly that his/her calling is to serve in the worship department. My opinion, a person can be very good in music but his/her calling may not be in the worship department. Anyhow, for those who’s serving in the worship team, I would say play for God’s glory and not for own pride. Keep up the passion and serve Him wholeheartedly.

What do you like to do besides drums?
Sports, computer games and fellowship with friends.
  
Lastly, in your own words, how would you encourage more drummers to this website?
I’m more than happy to tell all the drummers that I know especially all the drummers in my church’s worship team. This is a great site to learn and get to know more people who shares the same passion for Christ.
