Could you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m Joshua M (the ‘M’ is quite a mouthful, so..) serving the Lord Jesus at Hope of God Petaling Jaya. Have been a Christian for – lemme see (counting with calculator) – 20 years! Wow, didn’t realize that it had been that long. I am married to a beautiful angel called Irene Teo for 8+ wonderful years. She is my foremost supporter and fan. We don’t have children yet and we believe that He will provide the miracle.

How did you find out about Drummerforchrist.com?
I was told about the Merdeka event by one of my church leaders who received an email from DrummerforChrist.com. She forwarded the email to me and I came here.

How long have you been playing drums?
Not that long actually. Only a good 14 (or more, I lost track) years.

What do you practice in drums?
Rudiments, grooves, feet techniques, playing with others to complement them, music flow.

How do you improve yourself besides practicing?
Researching on the Net - YouTube & Vic Firth have great videos. The net has been my main source the past year. Listening to music A LOT  – both secular & Christian. I learn techniques by listening to music. Exercise - I also carry some weights for my upper limbs, run the stairs for my legs, ankle weights for hip muscles whenever I am sitting on the chair to practice speed.

How do you keep yourself spiritually fit?
Every morning, I pray and read the Bible. I seek the Lord for His guidance. I try, at much as I can, to speak to the Lord during the day. Studying the word (besides reading the Word) is very important as well.

Is there any particular drum and cymbal brand you play with?
I prefer playing TAMA right now. I like Zildjian crashes.

Please explain a little about your drum kit and cymbals (if any)
My config:  TAMA Rockstar drumkit : 14” snare, 12” & 13” Toms, 16” Floor tom, 22” Bass drum. Cymbals: Zildjian ZBT series – 14” Hi-hats, 16” Crash, 20” Ride & additional 16” Paiste 302 crash. Accessories: Iron Cobra double pedal, wind chime.

What advice would you give to young drummers who is serving or intended to serve in the worship department?
Love Jesus first. That’s the only way you can grow. Practise daily. In 1 to 2 yrs, you can achieve advance level of drumming. Remember, your passion MUST be for Jesus.

What do you like to do besides drums?
Watching movies!

Lastly, in your own words, how would you encourage more drummers to this website?
Email people. Let my friends in other churches know and get them to inform their worship team.
