Could you tell us a little about yourself?
I am John James Chew, I’m 17years old this year. I live in Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur. I live with my parents. I have 3 siblings. My younger bro stays in the house. My older bro in Singapore and older sis in Australia.
How did you find out about Drummerforchrist.com?
My church friend told me about the 50 hour drumming event.
How long have you been playing drums?
I have been playing drums for 7 yrs.
What do you practice in drums?
I practice grooves, paradidles, solos, and play with music.
How do you improve yourself besides practicing?
I look up scores and material in the internet. View drum solo videos.
How do you keep yourself spiritually fit?
I have my daily devotion in the morning, 15 minutess or so.
Is there any particular drum and cymbal brand you play with?
I like Pearl and Zildjians. But I mostly prefer my own drum kit and cymbals.
Please explain a little about your drum kit and cymbals (if any)
I first got my drum kit when I was 14. my parents bought it over from a church. The kit is a Mapex Birch Mars Pro series. I like Zildjians, but I use sabians mostly* I Have a B8 pro crash, hi hats, and ride. One Paiste 16” crash, A solar 10” splash, Stagg Mini Hihats, headliner Hannibal 12” thin splash, and a Sabian AA 16” rocktagon crash*
I have an eliminator 2000c double shifter pedal, pearl remote hi-hat. I recently added a set of Tama Imperial star 8” and 10” toms to my kit. I also like to use mounted percussions. Basically I have no fixed brand of hardware* I use almost anything*
What advice would you give to young drummers who is serving or intended to serve in the worship department?
Spend time with God, as I do every morning. Thank Him for the talents He has given to you,
What do you like to do besides drums?
I like basketball and bowling* I strum a little guitar and I just completed my grade 6 piano. I have also completed my grade 5 drumming with trinity and wish to further my skills.
Lastly, in your own words, how would you encourage more drummers to this website?
This website gives us drummers a chance to show our God-given gifts and talents and how we can apply it serving Him. The website also enables us to get in touch with other fellow drummers.
