Could you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m an 18 year old jobless dude who plays drums all day long. I try squeezing in time to fetch my siblings to and from school, and buying cucumbers for daddy when the kitchen runs out or them. I listen to different genres of songs, but I particularly like Rock and Blues. Rock because it’s full of energy, and blue because it just sounds so hot and cool at the same time. I aspire to combine these elements and create my own music called “Block” in the future.

What do you like to do besides drums?
I play basketball, and read a lot. I play a lil bit of the other musical instruments, like the guitar and the bass. I’m still learning the piano, going for my grade 7 practical exam in 2 weeks. Pray for me!

How did you find out about Drummerforchrist.com?
My friend Jonathan posted it in his blog.

How long have you been playing drums?
This is my 6th year. I joined the school band when I was a form 2 kid. Started off playing the snare drum. The year after that, I auditioned to play the drumset and by God’s grace was chosen to play until I graduated from highschool. I started playing in Sunday School when I was form 3.

What do you practice in drums?
Different styles of music. (Pop/Punk) Rock, blues, slows songs, fast songs, really fast songs. I think it’s important that a drummer is versatile in his style of playing, and so whenever I listen to something new, I put my heart to learn it up.

How do you improve yourself besides practicing?
Listening to different types of music. Hillsongs and Planet Shakers, for example, both have very different style of playing. Besides them, I listen to people like Joe Satraini, Steve Vai, and to drummers like Dennis Chambers and Mike Portnoy. By doing so, I pick up the different styles of playing by all these different people.

How do you keep yourself spiritually fit?
By reading the word and praying daily. It’s like eating Gardenia, so good you can even eat it on it’s own.

Is there any particular drum and cymbal brand you play with?
I play a mixture of Sabian and Zildjian cymbals. Drums wise, I’ve played mostly Tama’s, but I’d love to have my own Pearl one day.

Please explain a little about your drum kit and cymbals (if any)
My kit is a basic 5-piece which my dad got for me for my 14th birthday. It’s some China-made brand called “Pao-Chia”, and it’s sufficient for me to practice and wake the neighbors at home. I have Sabian AAX stage hats, AAXplosion 16’ crash, AAXtreme 17’ Chinese, HHXplosion 16’ crash, HHX evolution 18’ crash, Zildjian A Extra thin 12’ splash, Zildjian A 16’ Medium Crash, and an A Custom 20’ Projection ride. I have Peace Double Bass pedals. Oh, and I have a Pearl Firecracker 12x5.5 snare too!

What advice would you give to young drummers who is serving or intended to serve in the worship department?
Set your hearts right, glorify His name. Keep trying to pull off that riff, you’ll get it soon enough. Ask God to help you, He will honor your prayer if your heart is right. Submit to your seniors and song leaders, they might not know more than you, but God put them there for a reason. In all challenges, seek Him, and He will answer your prayers.

Lastly, in your own words, how would you encourage more drummers to this website?
If you wanna rock hard, come to this website! It’s a good place to be, ‘cause we’re all learning from one another, preparing for the one day we’ll all be in Heaven drumming His name to the highest glory!
