Could you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Christopher Sam. I attend Trinity Methodist Church, Petaling Jaya. I’ve been playing drums since I was nine. I started playing in my school’s marching band which is where I developed my interest for the instrument. When I joined my church’s youth group, I got myself involved in the worship ministry and have doing so ever since. I have also played for my church’s Christmas and Easter musical presentations since 2005. I study at Monash University, pursuing a Double Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Commerce and Communications.

How did you find out about Drummerforchrist.com?
My friend sent me a link to the website.

How long have you been playing drums?
Since I was nine.  That would be more than a decade now.

What do you practice in drums?
Timing, roles, beats, techniques.

How do you improve yourself besides practicing?
Playing with a band. I find that the best way to improve is to play with other people.

How do you keep yourself spiritually fit?
By keeping myself around other people who are; to support and encourage one another. I do my quiet time and actively serve in church.

Is there any particular drum and cymbal brand you play with?
I like Vic Firth sticks and Zildjian cymbals. No preference for drums.

What advice would you give to young drummers who is serving or intended to serve in the worship department?
Make sure your heart is right before you start serving and constantly check on yourself when you do. In this ministry, it’s easy to loose yourself in the music and the attention you might receive. Remember, its God who gives you the talent, so rightfully, we should use it for His glory. Have fun playing but take the commitment very seriously.

What do you like to do besides drums?
Indulge in cars, music, books (strictly non-fiction), sports and technology and food of course.

Lastly, in your own words, how would you encourage more drummers to this website?
By having an online drum resource (drum tabs for Christian songs) and tips by our own guys on related topics.
